Our Climate

Colorado Springs, nestled at the edge of the high plains and directly adjacent to the Rocky Mountains, provides four seasons of enjoyable sunshine with mild winters, moderate summers and none to wet springs and falls. Our high desert location provides the opportunity to participate in year round outdoor activities of all sorts. Locals favorite weather related line is that "if you don't like the current weather, wait five minutes and it will change." This is typically for the better, bad weather moves fast in and out of the area, but rarely lasts long.

Spring Weather - April thru June
Rain and sometimes snow accompany mild days and cool nights throughout spring in the Pike Peak Region. Weather can range from a warm sunny afternoon to a snowstorm or most things between. A day or two later, the weather will typically be mild again in any case.

Summer Weather - July and September
Days are warm, but nights are can still be cool. Afternoon rain usually comes in the form of brief thundershowers, which is common. The low humidity and mountain breezes of the high desert allows homeowners to open their windows and/or utilize swamp coolers to keep their homes cool when the temperatures warm up. Swamp Coolers are effectively used in dry hot environments as a less expensive alternative to air conditioning. For more info: Swamp Cooler FAQs

Fall Weather - September thru November
Nights become cold while the days are generally sunny with occasional rain and some snow. Our Pikes Peak Aspen begin to display their golden fall colors from late September into early October. The chance of snow to the nearby mountains becomes more regular in late fall.

Winter Weather - Late November thru early April
Snow depths will commonly reach up to eight to ten feet in the upper mountain areas. Meanwhile down in the Springs area, our average yearly snowfall is 40-45 inches. Our low humidity provides for light powdery snow right out of a Dickens classic. Wait a few days and the snow melts away in the city while Pike Peak shimmers with other snow capped peaks while the Springs is awash in sunshine and mild temperatures.
